No-core costs: reduce waste and save on stationery
In all offices the stationery is used on a daily basis, just think of all the times we print, highlight, write, scribble, and so on.
It is therefore useful to investigate the topic with some useful tips to reduce stationery waste:
- Toners and prints: in addition to having relevant costs, they are used daily. To reduce wastage it is useful to print in b/w (for internal documents), use the “Print preview” function to avoid printing the file incorrectly and then having to reprint it, print until the cartridge is completely empty avoiding to change it to the first warning of “cartridge low” and clean the print heads regularly. Furthermore, use cartridges in XL format, which have a greater ink capacity, meaning a better quality / price ratio.
- For notes it is ideal to use spiral blocks instead of the classic notepads, as they are much more convenient for front / back writing. In fact, on a classic notepad we never write on both sides and end up using 50% of the block!
- It is also advisable to collect printed sheets that are no longer used and, instead of destroying them, create a notepad or use them for printing internal drafts.
- It is also important to lubricate the document shredder with oil or lubricant sheets, effectively cutting its blades and thus saving energy.
- Share the products on your desk (and rarely used) with other colleagues: by placing them in a space accessible to everyone, you can use them in common until they are completely exhausted, with the added benefit of having a clearer desk.
- Rarely-used products: it is good to prefer the “mini” format or to choose the long duration version (the highlighter is one example, because if unfrequently used it dries or evaporates).
With some simple and concrete actions, it is therefore possible to save money without compromising the quality of the working environment. Further (and greater) savings can then be obtained with a cost reduction project on the stationery (on a success fee basis).
